In recognition of her pioneering contributions to the communications field, the Organizational Communication Division of the National Communication Association (NCA) will honor CODE^SHIFT Director Dr. Srivi Ramasubramanian with its Service Engagement Award at its 110th Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. The convention is set to take place from November 21 to 24, 2024.
Below is a statement from Dr. Ramasubramanian:
"About 10 years ago, after earning tenure, I was no longer satisfied with being only a media psychologist. This is when I started my nonprofit Media Rise to connect scholars with media professionals and community orgs. This is when my identity grew to also include scholar activism and applied comm scholarship.
Soon after, I was appointed as Associate Dean for Climate & Inclusion in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University. In this role, I started working on institutional change through action oriented dialogues on campus racism and other inequalities through The Difficult Dialogues Project. At this time, the organizational communication subfield embraced me as one of their own.
In the last three years, as founder of CODE^SHIFT, I have tried to broaden my work to make connections across social sciences, data sciences, humanities, health sciences, policy studies, and arts. I sit on the advisory board of our humanities center at Syracuse University, for instance. I routinely collaborate with folks across campuses, disciplines, and nations.
Thank you to the NCA organizational comm division for inviting me into their subfield and honoring me with their Service Engagement Award. It is a testament to the broad impact of our work and the continued need to break through silos within and outside our disciplines."
